Firstly, check out the code:

Building McStas in the SVN repos:
  * autoconf -o configure nconfigure.in
  * ./configure
  * make
  * make install
  * (Or if you prefer not to make install, set MCSTAS=$PWD/src/McStasTest and PATH=$PWD/src:$PATH)
  * Test using e.g. mcrun --test or mcrun --test BNL_H8.instr

Building McXtrace in the SVN repos:
  * autoconf -o configure xconfigure.in
  * ./configure
  * make
  * make install
  * (Or if you prefer not to make install, set MCSTAS=$PWD/src/McXtraceTest and PATH=$PWD/src:$PATH)
  * Test using e.g. mxrun --test
